Objective: To develop skills within my team.
Process: Before the first meeting, the manager and the team member individually rate the current skill level for each skill. In the first meeting, they review the individual ratings and agree on a final rating. Then, the team member identifies two to three skills to focus on developing over the next three months. Together, the team member and manager create the development plan.
The manager and team member should re-rate the skill levels every three months, based on specific performance outcomes over those three months. In between these meetings, the team member implements the development plan. The manager provides/approves opportunities to practice the skills the team member is working to develop.
I tested this with my team, and it successfully improved performance and aided in building collaborative relationships and self-confidence.
